Two exit Baker McKenzie’s capital markets team

Baker McKenzie is short two equity capital markets operatives heading into the new year.

Street Talk understands Transactional Practice Group partner Cécile Baume and special counsel Stephanie Glass have left the high-powered law firm.

Sources said Glass had joined Baker McKenzie client, St Baker Energy Innovation Fund, as general counsel. The fund invests in early-stage growth companies in the energy and e-mobility sectors.

A spokesperson for Baker McKenzie confirmed Baume’s departure, and sought to shore up confidence in the firm’s US securities capability.

“Cécile has played an important role in our equity capital markets team over the past three years and now decided to pursue other opportunities,” the spokesperson said.

“With one of the world’s largest capital markets practices, we have access to a large US securities team globally including based in the APAC region. As a result, we will continue to be able to support our clients in Australia with any US securities’ needs.”

Baume joined the firm from Allen & Overy in 2021 as a US securities law partner for its Australian corporate law practice. Her practice focused on advising non-US-based companies in transactions involving US federal securities laws and was seen on Life 360’s $145 million IPO via a CDI, Viva Energy’s $2.6 billion IPO and WiseTech Global’s $167 million IPO. She also advised Macquarie Group on its $1.6 billion institutional placement.

Glass has also been with Baker McKenzie since 2021 and represented Tyro Payments in its $287 million IPO, PointsBet in a $400 million institutional placement and entitlement offer and Computershare in several US private placements.

The moves come months after Baker McKenzie partner and equity capital markets head Antony Rumboll resigned to join Rob Koczkar and Anthony Kerwick’s private equity shop Adamantem. Senior associate Rita Mikhael also jumped ship to David Di Pilla’s HMC Capital – which notably is a client of Baker McKenzie.
